How can a boat move with just a candle? The principle behind it is quite interesting, not to mention fun to watch!
- First fill the small copper tubes with water inside the boat.
- Then light a candle (included) and put it inside the body of the boat.
- Put the boat in a bathtub or sink filled with water. After a few seconds....It starts to move emitting a "pop pop" sound of old school motor boats!!!
So how on earth does it work? These boats are powered by a simple boiler consisting of a thin coiled tube of copper. The tube's ends extend out the back of the boat into the water. The coils in the middle of the tube extend over a small flame, which heats the water in the coils. When the water boils, the steam jets out the back, propelling the boat forward. After expansion, the steam cools enough to create a partial vacuum which refills the tube with water, and the cycle begins again. It's that simple.
This is a beautiful toy is part the collection of nostalgic toys of yesteryear.
